Angry Orchard is quickly becoming one of the most well known brands of hard ciders in the country. Some say it’s their apples, which partly come from regions of Italy, Normandy and France. Others point to an opportunity the Angry Orchard Cider Company seized at the right place and time. Whatever the reason for their success one thing can be said about them: they brew a solid hard cider.
In a niche where almost everyone is a smaller craft brewer, the Angry Orchard Cider Company has continued to do an amazing job getting their name out there. From running TV ads during highly watched sporting events, to being the first hard cider that I saw my local generic grocery stores fully stocking – these guys know business as well as they know brewing.
They offer a great selection of hard ciders too. Here’s what’s available from their lineup:
- Angry Orchard Crisp Apple (reviewed on this post)
- Angry Orchard Green Apple
- Angry Orchard Apple Ginger
- Angry Orchard Traditional Dry
- Angry Orchard Elderflower (Seasonal)
- Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple (Seasonal)
They also offer a “Cider House Collection” series of corked bottles:
- The Legend of Strawman
- The Legend of Iceman
- The Legend of The Muse
It may be a while until I’ve had a chance to
drink carefully research each of these hard ciders. Somebody has to do it and I fearlessly volunteer to the task!
Now let’s go over the Angry Orchard Crisp Apple, since that’s the hard cider I’m drinking and tasking at the moment.
I can see why a lot of people enjoy this cider. It’s clean, very fruity and sweet and it has a kick of “crisp” that the brewers nailed down. Without it this cider might be a tad too sweet for my taste, the “crisp” does a great job taking the edge off the sweet. By the way, the “crisp” I’m referring to is the taste and sensation from biting into a ripe honeycrisp apple – which is what I experienced drinking this cider.
The Angry Orchard Crisp Apple has a distinct fresh apples aroma and a beautiful amber presentation. This is an easy crowd pleaser, great for a picnic or a get together with friends.
The only minor drawback for me is the it is a tad too sweet for my palate. While I thoroughly enjoyed one, a second one right away might put me over the edge. In moderation, this is a fantastic hard cider.
