I picked this one up last week as I was doing some grocery shopping for the holiday season, and it was an awesome pick for this time of the year.
Overall the Crispin Honey Crisp is just an awesome hard cider and makes me want to taste all other Crispin Cider Company creations! It goes down super smooth and the signature of a premium cider. There’s a clear apple juice flavor on the crisp side without crossing the “too sweet” line. As the sip settles in your mouth, there’s no hiding the honey flavor to follow – and that’s a good thing! After the first sip you can tell you’re drinking something created with skilled craft.
This particular brew is part of Crispin Cider Company’s Artisanal Reserve collection, which is composed of three other brews:
- The Saint
- Lion Belge
These are hand crafted in small batches and blended with real organic honey. Although I had mine chilled, the brewer suggests it goes down smooth over ice.
The first thing I always notice when I pour myself a glass of anything is the appearance, and Crispin’s Honey Crisp has a cloudy, unfiltered apple juice look to it. Although it may be slightly off-putting at first, there’s a good reason for this – Crispin Cider Company’s unique Cloudy Filtration™ process (yes there’s a “TM” there). This process involves “using racked unfiltered apple wine that leaves residual natural apple wine sediment in the bottle”. For that reason, be sure to give this bottle a slight swirl and slow upside-down-and-back motion before opening it.
